Land, 2000: live video performance
media: live dog, video projection, fence, sod
exhibitions: installation gallery at Claremont
Graduate University - 2000
Inspecific
Land, coinciding with the Southern California event, Inland Specific,
was created in collaboration with artist Gül Cágan. The white
of the gallery becomes an outdoor environment with grass and fence, onto which
the video of a dog being taken for a walk is projected. The video charts the
boundaries and borders of an urban neighborhood, set to the sounds of barking
dogs - both live and prerecorded during the taped dog walk. The presence of
a live dog adds another visual layer, as the animal's black shadow interacts
with the black silhouette of the dog within the video. Fences filmed along
the walk repeat the fence within the gallery: life criss-crosses with its
representation.
